What is SOVT?
SOVT stands for Semi- Occluded Vocal Tract. It is a way of saying that your mouth or airway is partially closed or narrowed.
What do SOVT exercises do?
SOVT exercises warm up your vocal cords and improve vocal efficiency by creating back pressure in your airway.
The resistance used during SOVT exercises helps your vocal folds vibrate with less effort, reducing strain during performance. They also enhance breath control, increase vocal flexibility, and can help correct tension patterns that limit your range. How long does it take to see results from vocal training?
It does not take long to see initial results; changes in breath control can be felt after a single session, alongside tonal changes and dynamic ability. However, significant changes with lasting effects on tone, range and strength generally become apparent after 3-6 months of consistent use.
Major vocal transformations occur over 6months to 1 year of regular, daily exercise.

How can I heal a damaged singing voice?
Injured singing voices can and do occur; it’s a common injury that even professional performers, vocalists and speakers experience from time to time. Many struggle through without knowing there are techniques for healing the vocal tract safely but efficiently.
Strict vocal rest is always advised as often as possible, keeping your body well hydrated at all times and using gentle recovery exercises, lip trills and SOVT exercises – if pain and/or discomfort last for more than 2 weeks, it is advisable to consult your GP or a trained healthcare professional for investigation.
Why should I use a vocal trainer rather than using the straw method?
